JEEP COMPASS 2020 REVIEW

Hey Guys, I’m Spokesman review 2020 here, today we are going to talk about the Jeep Compass Facelift, which is just launched will be soon coming to India. We will be sharing all the details on this, so read this blog till the very end. Jeep Compass was launched in India some years ago this brand was doing very well when it started off its journey. It entered the Indian market in a very premium way got a lot more new interesting products as well. Now the Jeep Compass is due to get a facelift, this facelift has just been launched in the European market. Jeep Compass as an overall product, sells in North America, India, of course, South America is also a big market for it & at the same time Europe has also become an important market because it’s manufacturing has recently started in Italy. If you notice the dimensions of this car are almost the same in all the markets but there are variations in the engine.

ENGINE

The US gets a 2.4-liter Petrol, whereas the one that is introduced in Europe now, gets a new engine. It gets a 1.3-liter Turbo Petrol producing 130bhp with 6-speed manual transmission & 150bhp with a 7-speed DDCT transmission - basically the automatic. Whereas the diesel is a 1.6-liter MultiJet engine, which is made available with manual & automatic transmission. Whereas if we speak about India, here you get the 1.4-liter Turbo Petrol engine which comes with a 7-Speed DSG & a 6-Speed Manual has also been offered, whereas the Diesel engine comes with a 2.0-liter MultiJet engine producing 170bhp & 350Nm torque & paired with a 6-Speed Manual or a 9-Speed Automatic.

TYRES AND HEADLAMPS

Now when we talk about this car, the overall look has been maintained everywhere. The car showcased in Europe along with the features offered will also be made available in the Indian market. Now let's focus on the changes made & then we will proceed to when will it be available in the Indian market & what will be the expected pricing. 1. What has been changed? You will notice it gets a new front grille, not a very big change on the headlamps, some changes on the front bumper, minor tweaks on the rear bumper, new alloy wheel design. 19-inch alloy wheels particularly for the European market, India will not get a 19 inch, it will continue to get the 17 inches, let’s hope 18 inches is also made available to the Indian market. 2. In terms of features, it gets projector headlamps HIDS, day time running LEDs, decent ground clearance in the car & rear tail lamps also get an led.

CABIN LOOKS

In terms of looks if you compare the Compass in India & in Europe, there is a very minuscule change in design. 3. Talking about the interiors of Jeep Compass - the car was launched in 2017 but it has got timely updates like the Limited + variant, then came the TrailHawk. So there were changes made across the timeline. Now, what all is already available in this car? The cabin has been designed very well & built perfectly for safety. In fact, the Jeep Compass which is available in Europe & the US scored a complete 5 star in its crash test rating. In terms of design, it has a very simplistic & minuscule approach with a big touch screen in the center, a nice chunky leather steering wheel & a really good looking instrument cluster as well. So if you look at it from far, it appears the same, but once you pay attention to detail, is when you will notice the differences. There won’t be much of a change on the steering wheel. The instrument cluster will be almost similar, whereas the touch screen system will get an update. In Europe, they are offering 2 types of touch screen systems. One is the 7-inch Touchscreen for the lower variant & the 8.4 inches for the higher variant. he touches screen size currently available in India will be retained on the Compass for the Limited+ & even the lower variants. 

ASSETS AND ACCESSORIES

However, there will be new aspects to it like the UConnect 5 that will be offered in the car. This will basically be the connected car technology for the Indian car market. The Jeep Compass that is currently available in India does not come with the connected car feature, but this new feature will now come for sure. This will definitely be a good addition for those who want new technology for their vehicle. The higher variant which comes with an 8.4-inch touchscreen will get features like navigation, controls for your car such as My Navigation, My Remote, My Control which will help you navigate, check your car’s health, lock/unlock your car, in case of a situation, there is SOS, roadside assistance - similar to the ones that are available in the Creta, Nexon, etc - same features shall be offered on the Compass as well. 4. The next addition the Jeep Compass gets is the Wireless Apple Car Play & Wireless android auto & for the first time, Amazon Alexa will also be offered on the Indian car market. I’m assuming wireless charging should also be included as a default package which will be one more new feature. Whereas if we talk of the overall package, you will get leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, 6 airbags, ABS + EBD, traction control, reverse parking camera, I hope they offer a 360-degree camera for India as that is what is currently missing. 

PRICING

Also when people look at Jeep as a premium product, they do expect some more features for a better package. The engines that are available in India shall stay constant - i.e. the 1.4-liter Turbo Petrol & 2.0 Diesel engine with manual & automatic transmission offered for both. The TrailHawk will also be continued as is. 5. Talking about the Price, not much of a difference is expected. There can possibly be a difference of 20 - 30,000 compared to the current price or at the most 50,000 difference for the top-end model. You can’t expect a very big jump in the pricing for a simple fact that today. The jeep Compass comes with a lot of features & these are just minor additions & not a major makeover. Secondly, today Jeep needs better pricing to add on more value for the customers, as somewhere it has been affected due to it’s high pricing if you compare it to its competition like the Tucson is also on a similar price point, where Hyundai has decided to make it a CKD there will be a further price cut down & will offer a lot more features too in the coming days.

CONCLUSION

So there is the Jeep Compass, the Skoda Karoq, there’s even the VW T-Roc, so Jeep needs to pull up its socks make it a much better value package. What’s the Launch timing?? We are expecting this car to get an update by Diwali, but there is no confirmation on this from the brand. It is a little too early to say when will the updates be available in the Indian market, but the engines that are offered in Europe will not be coming to India. A hybrid version will also be offered in Europe known a 4XE, but that certainly not going to come to India anytime soon. India will continue with its existing 2 power ….itself. People have been asking what else is expected from Jeep for the Indian car market. So I will summarise it very briefly. There have been talks on the Renegade, but there has been no clarity as such. But off lately the reports have been hinting towards the D-SUV which is the 7 seater Compass or rather a 7 seater version of the Jeep could be expected, which basically could be on the similar lines like the Harrier - Gravitas, Hector - Hector+,     Jeep Compass - Compass 7 seater version or may a little bigger version could be expected.
